About the project

A performance expressing Van Gogh's mental state of mind.

During one of Van Gogh's Friday night events, Bruno was commissioned to create a performance that explored the artist’s fluctuating mental state. Drawing from extensive research on letters Van Gogh sent to his brothers throughout his career, Bruno crafted a multifaceted experience incorporating dance, sound healing, soundscapes, and audience interaction.

Bruno and dancer Matilde Tommasini descended the grand staircase in the main hall of the monumental museum, with Bruno carrying Matilde on his back the entire way. Upon reaching the ground floor, Bruno gently set Matilde down, then walked over to his sound bowls and began to play. In this performance, Bruno symbolized the moments of peace, while Matilde embodied the chaos of Van Gogh’s mind through her dance. The experience was guided by a soundscape created in collaboration with Eauxmar. Bruno and Matilde were connected by ropes around their wrists, representing the entanglement of mental states and the connection between fluctuating emotions.

The performance's unexpected placement in the center of the hall was strategically chosen to captivate and "shock" the attendees, enhancing the overall impact and immersive quality of the experience.
